   If the "IT" guys were any good then they would use a tool which would   
   provide them with this information. I mean why stop at folders, why not   
   registry settings as well ?? How I do this is to install under Altiris   
   before deciding whether it is safe or not. Altiris also provides you with a   
   list of just about everything that gets modified , including registry keys.   
   The advantage is that I do not need to bother anyone with such stupid   
   requests and thats assuming you can identify the software creator.
