Saving data to dataguard

   I currently have a dataguard config ( not active ) setup for an oracle 12c   
   enterprise databse on windows.   
      
      
   I would like to ensure that any transactional info on the production server is   
   copied and applied to the standby database before a shutdown.   
      
   Are there any steps I need to follow to ensure this or is the dataguard config   
   enough to ensure this happens automatically?
