   While I have a clear idea how it would look in Awk I cannot say   
   anything about how it would look in Perl. (I suppose the "Perl   
   is a functional superset of Awk" wouldn't imply that the bulky   
   Awk code [for the 'ex'-sample] would be more terse in Perl?)
