   Then presumably ubuntu 10.04 is broken in the same way -- it may be an   
   upstream bug that has been fixed since (ubuntu 10.04 is somewhat old).   
      
   The Debian versions I tried (none of which exhibit your problem):   
      
     g++-4.4 (Debian 4.4.6-11) 4.4.6   
     g++-4.5 (Debian 4.5.3-9) 4.5.3   
     g++-4.6 (Debian 4.6.1-11) 4.6.1   
     g++ (Debian 20110914-1) 4.7.0 20110914 (experimental) [trunk revision 178863]   
      
   These probably all have fixes applied from the upstream maintenance   
   branch that are weren't in the original release.

   Yes, it's the development trunk.  Can't hurt to try that too   
   though... :]
