   I would suggest to you, and the whole industry, to start investigate   
   what other metrics there are except dollar. With dollar only, the sales   
   department will always be profitable and the R&D department a cost.   
      
   Everyone needs money in the end though, so if we could see a connection   
   between some other metric and dollar profit, then we could focus on that   
   metric instead.

   But I agree with you, if even an R&D department could measure its work   
   in financial profit, we too could demand percentage on profit. ;)
