   But that’s only locally. Nothing goes to the mainframe unless you press   
   the SEND key.   
      
   That’s what “block mode” means.   
      
   Now imagine trying to run something more properly interactive, like Emacs   
   (or vi/vim, if you prefer), through such an interface.
