   I think that charger was from my old Asus Nexus 7 tablet (remember   
   those?).   
      
   I found another one, which was only rated for 1A. Tried plugging the   
   Samsung phone into it ... and it worked.   
      
   Went back to the above Asus charger ... and that is now working also.   
      
   Not sure what the issue was before ... something obviously not firmly   
   plugged in, I guess ...
