Someone that doesn't understand the       difference between VoLTE and LTE might believe that any device that       supports LTE data supports VoLTE with a SIM or eSIM, but that is not       true. For a standalone hotspot device they probably realize that phone       calls are not possible, but with a tablet, that has a microphone and a       speaker, they may believe, as the original poster on Reddit believed,       that they should be able to stick in a SIM card, or get an eSIM, from a       prepaid carrier, and voice calls would work.
