Thanks to Your Name for providing an interesting read on marketing success.

It's nice to know that Fortune and Korn Ferry have yet again ranked Apple
as the most admired company in the world. Apple has held the top spot for
19 years, based on a survey of about 3,000 executives, directors, and
analysts who rate companies on nine criteria including innovation, talent
management, and use of capital. Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, and Alphabet
also placed in the top ten.

However, my brain is wired for Occams Razor, not marketing hype.

Apple has a long record of making claims that later turn out to be
misleading. Examples include the Batterygate throttling issue, efficiency
claims that did not match EU energy ratings, and repeated marketing
statements about iOS security that do not line up with findings from CISA
and Google Project Zero. Judge Gonzalez has also referred Apple to the
Justice Department for concerns about truthfulness in court filings.

The pattern is that Apple presents its ecosystem restrictions as security
measures, but independent researchers have never found measurable security
benefit. The restrictions do increase lock-in and profit, so it is
reasonable to question whether security is the real motive.

It is also worth noting that admiration rankings tend to reinforce
themselves. Once a company is seen as successful, many people erroneously
automatically interpret that marketing success as proof of good judgment
rather than looking at the details.

That feedback loop can create a herd effect where reputation amplifies
itself. Some Apple users take pride in being aligned with a highly admired
brand mentality, which can make critical discussion harder even when the
   underlying facts are mixed.

Occam's Razor guides my assessments more than marketing hype ever will.
