Well, all is well. I looked at more Amazon reviews and one guy had a
similar problem, but he gave no details on how he solved it.

I, otoh, had tried 8 or 10 times to make a call from the phone and got
the message in the subject line every time. It pays to wait a day. Today
I tried twice and on the second time I was looking at the phone's app
instead of the watch, and first it asked Do you want to pair? (which
clearly is not the same thing as being connected, even though they both
involve Bluetooth!!!!!!!) and when I said Yes, something blinked on the
other part of t he screen about Invalid Pass Key. That didn't help me
since I had no idea wha tthe passkey should be or where to enter it.

I couldn't get that question again, even by closing the app and reopeing
it. In fact, tapping the Back arrow at the bottom must not have closed
it at all because when I "reopened" it was on the same page as when I
closed it, no matter what page.

There probably is a way to close an app, while using the phone,
   right????

Instead I restarted the phone, and that worked. It asked if I wanted to
pair, and then nonthing. But then when I tapped Call, it offered me 3
things including my contact list. Had never gotten that far befoe, and
indeed the whole thing works now. .

I haven't tested its range, but if I can leave the phone downstairs and
still use it from the bathtub upstairs, I will tell you what it is.

Other than that question, and one other thing***, it works great. Bright
screaen, Option for low power use. Only used 3% in the first 24 hours,
even though I was doing far more fiddling with it than I normally would.
***Like many or all??? of them it says it's IP68, and 8 is supposed to
be either a) 1 hour under 1 meter of water, or b) acc wikip, better than
7, which is 30 minutes under 1 meter of water. Instead the little
manual printed in grey, instead of black so I can easily read it (as are
many things these days) says "only for light rain, splashes, and
hand-wasing scenarios. Don't use for swimming, diving, sauna, or a hot
   shower"

I bought this mainly because of an earlier fall where it took me hours
to get back up, so I can call a neighbor or the police. I planned to
wear it when I took a bath, with my hand underwater up to a foot for
short periods. IIUC, they're saying it will leak if I do that.

Do other phones renege on their IP68 rating once you've bought it and
red the instructions? They rate their own products, right? Few are
sant to UL or any place else to be tested, right?

I'll let you know if it works from upstairs to downstairs.
