   The software updater in Ubuntu pops a menu asking you to reboot. Click the   
   button and nothing happens.   
      
   Depending on my mood 'sudo shutdown now -r'  or 'sudo systemctl reboot'   
   get the job done.  It doesn't always pop a dialog anyway.
