    Indeed, I never had that. We're talking Windows 11 here, which mostly   
   uses modern hardware (because of TPM and stuff) and probably SSDs.

    'Even' a complete 'repair install' shouldn't take much more than an   
   hour, including the download time when the system is still up/usable.

    Yes, it does happen. Does it happen that often? I don't think so. It   
   never happened to me, from Windows 1.0 all the way through 11.   
      
    BTW, many of the horror scenarios seem to involve laptops (not   
   desktops) - why bother to mention such 'details'? :-( -, which should   
   not be Shut down or Restart-ed nilly willy, but just let/put to sleep   
   (or hibernate).   
      
    And the case with 8 workstations/employees shutting down at the end of   
   the day, same story: Unmanaged systems/procedures will get you into   
   trouble. News at ten.   
      
    Bottom line: Technology requires management/time. Don't spend it and   
   sooner or later it will spend it for you.
