The rudeness extended even to people born and raised in MontrĂ©al, funny
enough. My French is excellent and the accent is perfect, but because my
name isn't French, they always see me as an outsider. It doesn't matter to
them that I introduce myself using the French version of my first name
either; they will continue to try to pronounce the Polish version of my
name to reinforce the fact that I'm an "outsider" who has always lived
   among them.
