After VBA petered out Esri switched to Python as their preferred scripting
language. Installing ArcMap would also install a Python27 directory with
their libraries. 10.9.1 was the last of both ArcMap and Python 2. People
weren't happy with the transition but when you're the 500 pound gorilla in
the GIS world you do what you want to.

In truth the Audi 100LS wasn't a very good car. After we split my ex
traded it for a Rabbit which was a step up. I think she got $500 on the
trade in. If the 100 was a POS the 80, Fox in the US, which dingbat drove
   was the POS Jr.

Volkswagen was transitioning to putting the engine and drive train on the
other end of the vehicle and had a learning curve. Unlike the Edsel Audi
survived. Some of their models are sharp looking but once bitten.
