   It can be compiled, just like some Java and Lisps will also offer   
   compilation.   
      
   As for stand-alone programs, what *is* a stand-alone program? Even if   
   statically-linked, do you consider e.g. a C program stand-alone if it   
   requires a hosted implementation to run on?
