   You regularly see magazine articles on “Building Your Own Windows Box”. It   
   is true this gives you a lot more flexibility than buying a prebuilt PC off   
   the shelf. And it can be cheaper, too. Except for one thing.   
      
   Microsoft doesn’t allow you to inatall an OEM-licensed copy of Windows for   
   your own use. You are supposed to buy a higher-priced FULL RETAIL COPY of   
   Windows for a machine you build for yourself. Says so right here   
   :   
      
        Microsoft retail software licenses are the appropriate licenses for   
        the do-it-yourself market. OEM System Builder software is not   
        intended for this use, unless the PC that is assembled is being   
        resold to another party.   
      
   Suddenly Windows doesn’t seem so cheap, does it?
