    That's the first thing that needs to be sorted out with a proper package   
   manager. The fact that you can install "alien platform" software on a Mac with   
   a 3rd party package manager is not really that compelling.   
      
    Package manager are a lot less compelling for self-contained products and   
   tend to be much more useful for things that come with a lot of dependencies to   
   sort out. That very issue is why I started using package managers myself.   
      
    I found that sorting out all of the bits and bobs for early GNUstep and   
   KDE builds were starting to be too much of a bother.
