   Yeah, but have you ever built anything like Gimp, which is not just a simple   
   do-one-thing program, but a whole ecosystem of Free Software?   
      
   And it has to build on systems that you have no access to, with all kinds of   
   weird setups. That’s why it depends on the GNU Autotools, which represent a   
   huge accumulation of experience with the quirks of various proprietary   
   systems.   
      
   Have you ever developed software that had to cope with that?
