Why Does Windows Seven Need So Many Part

Some people trying to install Seven SP1 are hitting weird problems
   .
It seems Windows is a bit fussy about how its partitions are set up, and you
need to invoke some black-magic voodoo to appease it if it throws a tantrum.

Why does Windows need a “system reserved” partition? What exactly is in
there, that it needs to be updated in such a flaky way?

Why does Windows still require the concept of an “active” partition? Linux
bootloaders don’t care about this, which is why it’s so easy to multiboot
   with Linux.
