I am not forced -- I can have scrolling work either way. And same with my
mouse wheel -- and on that I use a third party mouse and a third party driver
that gives me pretty impressive flexibility and choice. I do not know the
options for Linux now, but I know in the past I was unable to find anything
close there. In case you care, here is what I use:

Free software offers some choices. Other choices (Mac / Windows) offer other
choices. Pros and cons to each of these choices. Of course within the "free"
world you get lots of internal choices -- different DEs, for example, but with
macOS you get a lot of efficiency / productivity tools I appreciate.

I am just happy all exist and all push each other.
