And same with my       mouse wheel -- and on that I use a third party mouse and a third party driver       that gives me pretty impressive flexibility and choice. I do not know the       options for Linux now, but I know in the past I was unable to find anything       close there. In case you care, here is what I use:               https://plentycom.jp/en/steermouse/              Free software offers some choices. Other choices (Mac / Windows) offer other       choices. Pros and cons to each of these choices.
