   SMB is standard on Macs now. The difficulty is that I've been using a
   couple of legacy Airport Time Capsules that don't talk SMB, only AFP,
   so I'm shifting the backups of my newer machines (that soon will only
   talk SMB) from the ATCs to my Synology Diskstation that can also talk
   SMB (now that I've changed its settings with help from Chatty, yay).

   My legacy 'puters won't be updated so they won't lose AFP ability in the
   way that my modern machines will. I'm moving the legacy backups
   currently in the Synology to the legacy Time Capsules, freeing space in
   the Synology for my modern 'puters to use and keeping the disk space of
   the ATCs. All of that is straightforward enough.

   I keep the backup disks in different parts of the house in case of fire
   or whatever. That means that there are several very large sparseimages
   and a couple of first-time backups that need to shuffle across my LAN;
   they won't like to be interrupted and will take a few days.

   I also have Backblaze for my main machine; you can't be too careful
   when it comes to keeping precious data safe.
