   Nearly all BASICs were like that, including I think Microsoft BASIC.   
      
   This may have been one reason why the original Dartmouth BASIC insisted   
   that assignments start with LET:   
      
       LET A = B = C   
      
   Of course, everybody else made the LET optional, and even “TrueBASIC” from   
   the original Dartmouth people eventually had to follow suit.
