   At least you do not lose any data. Text files are the least troublesome,   
   because it is easy to open the file in “universal newline” mode and   
   transparently handle all the common line-ending conventions.   
      
   We are talking here about a VMS-specific problem, that all the common   
   utilities insist on viewing file data through RMS, with all the trouble   
   that causes.
