   If VSI had started on that path from the beginning -- not bother with a   
   full native VMS port to x86-64 at all, but build an emulation layer on top   
   of Linux -- they could have had a functional product a few years earlier,   
   at much less cost, to offer to a larger customer base than remains now,   
   for consequently greater profit.
