   I assure you you are wrong about the first part.  Unfortunately   
   the second part is probably accurate.   
      
   It didn't help getting a new generation of folks interested in   
   alternatives to the dominant near-monoculture that the hobbyist   
   program went away.  :-(  I get that VSI had pragmatic reasons,   
   but is still a real shame.
