   Web proxies aren't the only kind of proxies, but Hoff used the term   
   "bastion host" upthread, which is probably the more correct term for

   Simplest (and probably worst) case is you don't "transfer" anything.   
     You log in once via SSH to the intermediate host that is accessible   
   from the company network.  Once you've got a terminal prompt there, you   
   telnet to your VMS machine on its private network that only is   
   accessible via the bastion. At that point you get your familiar VMS   
   login prompt, but with an additional step to get there.   
      
   There are surely ways to automate this, but I've never actually done it,   
   so I'm not in the best position to provide details.  Web searches on   
   "raspberry pi terminal server" or "raspberry pi bastion host" turn up   
   quite a few things.
