   But select() doesn't have an errfds parameter. :)  It has exceptfds   
   which is for exceptional conditions (e.g., out of band data) rather   
   than errors.  Ironically, a saved error will not cause a socket to   
   select true for exceptional conditions even though it will cause it   
   to select true for read & write--at least in real BSD sockets.
