   I can vaguely remember a case where the socket must be closed from an   
   "external"/secondary thread...   
      
   Another option/trick was to send a message to the to-be-closed socket right   
   before it would be closed, can't remember exactly...   
      
   Perhaps you might need something like that, the external/secondary thread   
   solution.   
      
   First you should figure out which calls are blocking and non blocking...   
   perhaps you could inform us of this.   
      
   From your code below it's not directly possible to tell what is and what is   
   not blocking...
