| Box stopping DDoS attacks |

Some time back at a computer fair, I saw one particular stall exhibiting some type of "box" (to fit into a rack) which, the guy said, prevents DDoS attacks. I would like to know 1) what this box is doing, and 2) what it's doing that a normal Linux box configured to be "in between" the net and a server, cannot do?
