You're not the       first person who has mentioned this problem to me in the past year, so I       have no excuse now.              (Probably no one cares, but the reason why the main Mac GUI site is HTTPS       but downloads are served over HTTP is that for most of the history of the       site, something like 15 years, downloads were served from a different web       server located in a different data center from the main web site.
