   I remember back then, anyone could touch it and even play with it a   
   bit.  Game carts were chained in to prevent theft but the main systems   
   were often not chained so if you had bulky coat you could probably   
   grab a free C64 back then.   
      
   The last time I saw any Commodore stuff at Sears, it was the newer   
   C64-C and a 1541-II drive missing the disk latch lever.   
      
   Stores still leave the PCs out on display today but they are often   
   password protected to prevent software tampering and the keyboard and   
   mouse were strapped down.  Laptops were also bolted in a security case   
   that allows only the keyboard to be touched.
