   You did try starting it from a "cold" start (everything off, then HD on   
   first, then ST) as well, right? With no floppy in the floppy drive, you'll   
   also have to wait longer for a bootup.

   Seems odd and suspicious to me too. I'd hook the SH205 to the Mega ST and   
   boot up with the hard drive software on a floppy in the floppy drive and   
   see what it reports.

   Oh, the floppy is dead - hmm, then you can't boot up with your hard drive   
   software. You'll need to get the floppy working to do that - that software   
   can tell you a lot more about what is going on.   
      
   Depending on the drive "face" you can swap them out - but the Atari drives   
   came with large eject buttons, small eject buttons, etc - you should be   
   able to look at it and see if it will fit or not.   
      
   I don't think, unless its some 3rd party/aftermarket board in the Mega ST,   
   that you can swap memory - the STe uses SIMMs.
