   I’m not so sure that they are so innovative. The main feature of the   
   ARM-based Apple machines is their lack of expandability. Even   
   something basic like upgrading the RAM is no longer possible with   
   them.   
      
   The reason why this was done was to boost performance: by tightly   
   wiring CPU and RAM and peripherals together, you avoid the overhead of   
   pluggable bus connections.   
      
   The net result is that all of Apple’s machines, even the desktop ones,   
   are now just glorified laptops.
