I had an ISA Terratec Maestro 32/96 with wavetable MIDI. That was quite
expensive in the mid 90s but I didn't care much about spending. While
ordering I then also got a Monster 3DFX.

I never enjoyed using a PC in the 90s as I enjoyed having a Commodore 64
or Amiga the decade before. Linux then made things somewhat more
enjoyable on the PCs to come.
