   Pommie mate of mine used something like that back in the 60s. He   
   called it his "CD calculator". :-)   
      
   [ But I suspect it may have been more like a cylindrical slide rule   
   than this Kurta gizmo you're talking about. Can't say I took all that   
   much notice of it at the time -- I shared a full-keyboard Monroematic   
   electric calculator at the time, much more advanced. :) ]
