I power 3 drives with my M4, one original and two       3.5" but even though I pull more 5V than the orginal drive setup I pull       less 12V so I think it is ok. It works. My M4 is the earlier model,       green screen but not gate array. I have done the same on my M3.              If you plan to have this drive externally then I would get a 5V supply       for it. Most 3.5" drives need only 5V (I have read about 3.5" drives       that need also 12V but never seen one, I think).              The supplies you mention elsewhere in the thread seems ok though the       eBay one is overkill but cheaper...              To see if the 3.5" has power: disconnect from M4, disconnect from power,       insert disk and apply power. You should hear the sound of the metal       cover of the disk opening. This can be just any disk.              In the photo then cable between the M4 and the drive is turned wrong,       pin 1 alignment is bad, as seen in the photo the striped lead (pin 1)       comes out on the right side on the M4, this is correct, but on the drive       it is also on the right side and this is wrong. Turn this connector over       so that pin 1 (the striped lead) is on the left side (as seen in the photo).              Knut              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
