   Not that much in fact. Basically you just need 2 sets of counters: one to   
   count character positions in a line, say modulo 40.   
   Then the lines etc. The other  is a straight binary up counter for linear   
   addressing. We are talking about some 4 chips extra   
   of standard logic. $1 or so in parts, but they need to be routed on a board   
   too.
