It is the machine that doesn't have the space for the       divider and actually this is the same on old pc's that use edgeconnector       on the floppy cable.              Floppydrives are always 34 pin, except for Apple (and SCSI). And also 34       pin on the computer end of the cable.              I have made all my TRS-80 floppy cables from pc cables that I could take       apart successfully.
