   You are contradicting yourself. The selling price in your example became   
   $201 and what decides that; the $200 bid (actually the step is more than   
   $1 at that level, $2.50 making the selling price $202.50 I think).   
      
   This favors the buyer because he pays less than $500.   
      
   The only time the highest bid decides the selling price is when it is   
   same or less higher than the step from the second highest (or it is the   
   only bid and at minimum bid or reserve...).

   Agree there. To overcome the sniper you just bid high enough in the   
   first place, either you win or the sniper will pay too much ;-)
