   I'm trying to resurrect my old Tandy 2500 XL-2 to transfer data from some   
   5.25 in. disks and am having trouble getting it started.  It's all original   
   (except for the mouse) and was simply put away when I got a new machine   
   several years ago; it had no problems at that point.  Now when I turn it on   
   I get one of these two messages:   
      
   "Non-system Disk or Disk Error"  (even without a disk inserted)   
   or   
   "Diskette Read Failure -   
   Booting ROM . . ."  . . . and then nothing.   
      
   I've cleaned it up, checked connections, etc.   
   I've tried it with the Tandy DeskMate start-up disk and with a later version   
   DOS boot disk (the machine is running DOS 3).   
   Does anyone have any suggestions?
