   You can keep your machines alive without the TRS-80 monitor if   
   you aren't worried about it looking the same.   
      
   The 5 PIN DIN that connects to the monitor has 3 signal lines.   
   There is a gnd, a 5 volt [as I recall] and a video.  You can   
   take the gnd and video and connect them to a phono plug and put   
   them into a video monitor.  I sold a few and the only complaint   
   I had was the 'black lines' in the text.  The user had gotten so   
   used to the over-driven blooming fuzzy model I text he hated   
   the higher definition of the TV monitor.  The 5V lines drives   
   the opto-isolator to keep the ungrounded monitor from affecting the   
   system.   
      
   That is a good replacement when the monitor gets really sick.
