   Actually Tandy and Microsoft was confusing the matter.   
      
   Tandy writes in their manuals that a written permission by them is   
   required for copies, no mention of needing any Microsoft permission.   
      
   Microsoft licenced their basic to EACA (Video Genie, System 80 and   
   PMC-80) with the result that EACA copied the Model I ROM with very minor   
   changes.   
      
   The US courts stopped the PMC-80 even though the machine is completely   
   different (inside too) and even has its incompatibilities (the minor   
   changes to the ROM). Part of the case on Tandy's side was that their I/O   
   routines were copied.
