   First, make sure the video cable connectors on both motherboard   
   and video driver board are making good contact.  In some machines,   
   this is the only problem with dim video or sync issues.   
      
   On some video boards, there is an internal brightness adjustment.   
   (This is the board in the lid).   
      
   With the contrast and brighness case controls at their maximium,   
   increasing the internal brightness will raise the overall brightness   
   floor considerably.  Once done, you can use the external brightness   
   and contrast adjustments to lower the level so you don't see the   
   raster and sync retraces.   
      
   You will have to examine the video board to find the control.   
   It is labeled.  Don't adjust any knobs without knowing what they   
   do!  If present, it is usually marked "INT BRIGHT" or "BRIGHT".
