I actually used a microcassette recorder with my Model 100, until
I splurged on the portable drive. But oddly, because I wouldn't
ahve expected it, I actually had to boost the output signal from
the recorder in order to have a strong enough signal for the Model
   100.

Back in the days when I actually used cassette recorders (it's been
23 years since I got my first floppy drive), I actually used a tape
deck for it. The signal levels from it were somehow fine. It had
a tape counter, and VU meters for getting the level right, and actual
controls for setting the input level. I used it because that's what
I had, but it was pretty convenient.

I was quite amused back in May when I bought a Casio organizer
at a garage sale for $3.00. Not only does it have massive memory,
512K, compared to that Model 100 (or the Radio Shack pocket computers
for that matter), but the same number of characters can fit on
the physically smaller screen, maybe it's even more than 8 lines
of forty characters. The only thing that's lesser is the keyboard
is smaller, and of course there's no means of running different programs,
you have to stick with the handful of organizer type things in the ROM.
