   In the Custom TRS-80, Dennis Bathory Kitsz points out that in his early   
   Model I, the noise leading to any need of the buffer was mechanical   
   vibration.  He solved it by vibration-control practices (pp. 121-124).   
      
   In the Model I hard disk supplement, p. 5, the newer (buffered) EI has the   
   two rows of RAM parallel to the keyboard.  If the RAM rows are perpendicular   
   to the keyboard, then they recommend the buffer mod.  You can see the RAM by   
   peering through the bottom vent slots.
