   In theory it should work. In practice... both ends must be using the   
   same protocol and if hardware handshaking, all the wiring needs to be   
   perfect. Even then there might be issues if the response to "stop   
   sending" is too slow. The new fangled (in the mid-1980s) modern uarts   
   with a few bytes of buffer greatly increased the efficacy of handshaking.
