And I took delivery of my Model I on December 27, 1977. I ordered
on August 4th or 5th and was told it would be 3 weeks. But the
demand was unprecedended. Serial number was in the low 10,000
   range.

The local RS was selling these like mad and for the good customers
[I was one and they'd refer people to me for hel[] when it came
time for an upgrade they'd just swap them out instead of sending
them to a repair center to my first machine with the 10k range
serial number got replaced a few months later.

The store had one of the smalles physical locations but the manager
fell in love with the machines and actually hired an outside
saleman [probaby the only on in the US to do so] and started moving
   a LOT of machines.

I was in his confidence and I saw his sales reports. The
computer sales in July 1978 were equal to his full store
   sales for July 1977.

He got so good and sold so many that other managers complained - so
RS - knowing how good he was - moved him to a regional managership
in a place he really wanted to go to - and they paid his way.
That was definate NOT typical of RS but the knew how to count
   the dollars.
