Actually you got lucky because the high density media uses a different
material with different magnetic qualities not generally compatible with
most double density drives. Mitsubishi was on of the few that could use
the media back in the mid-80's. There was a drive manufacturer in the
Valley North of Los Angeles, I don't remember their name at this time
but I still have a few of their drives archived away for retirement days
but it began with an M also. They and Mitsubishi were about the only
ones that really got it right. I had occasion to test Shugart, Tandon,
Siemens etc. and none of them really measured up to reliable business
use as double sided 80 track double density drives.
