I have obtained some %c-modem software from sources suggested here
(although which ones do what is not that clear) and plan to try those.

If none of those work to expectations, I will write a solution
as I have burned enough time on this problem already.

One option I am considering is to write something that cuts nine sector
by 512 byte 250K rate MFM diskettes directly on the Model 4 which can be
read on a PC system by software there, and knows how to span large files
   across multiple pieces of media.

Another would be to write a serial port file transfer. It's not hard
assuming you have reasonable tools and access/control of the serial
   UARTs on both ends.

I also noted recently that the floppy driver in FreeBSD claims it can be
configured to read/write 18x256 250K MFM floppies, so I might just write
a tool under UNIX that can read/write the LDOS/LS-DOS/TRSDOS-1.x diskette
formats directly. Then all I will need is a very simple tool on the
Model 4 side to break the large files apart. "cat" can put them back
together on the UNIX end. I haven't played with this yet, but to
write something in "C" that can read a LDOS/LS-DOS filesystem should
take a quiet evening or two, most of which would be spent on research.
This is the most elegant solution, since it could preserve file
   dates/times and other directory information.
