There's a good reason for that. They had a better computer.

I had a TRS-80 model I. It was my first computer and my introduction to
programming. I'm glad Radio Shack sold it. But if I had the money, I would
have gone with the Apple II instead.

   Why?

   1. It had slots - eight of them. I read somewhere the Model I was supposed
to have slots but that changed at the last minute.
   2. Color - up to sixteen colors.
   3. Sound - not much, but then again, the TRS-80 had none.
   3. Optional 80 column capability.
   4. You could open it up and add memory or other devices without voiding the
   warranty.

But it was EXPENSIVE. It cost more than twice what I paid for my Model I.

The Model I did have the better Z80, but there were Z80 cards for the Apple
   II as well....
